KidSenses Children’s InterACTIVE Museum, First Friday every month in 2015

Fantastic Friday’s free admission program! The museum will provide free admission on the first Friday of every month throughout 2015. KidSenses will welcome all visitors, free of charge, to visit the museum from 9 a.m. – 8 p.m. On each Fantastic Friday all visitors will be able to participate in free, fun, exciting and hands-on learning programs about science and energy. Programs will focus on the theme of renewable energy.

Summer Kids Camps at KidSenses August 3rd – 7th with full day and half-day camps for rising grades K-2 and 3-5. Choose one or all four camps offered. Visit today to register.

Night Owl Concert Series

Southern Quarter, located at 112 E. Main St. next to the Twisted Pear. Good Music & Good Food come together every Thursday night in Forest City for the summer Night Owl Concert Series. Join us at the Southern Quarter in downtown FC to enjoy live music, outdoor food trucks, wine and beer and plenty of fun activities for the whole family.

1st Friday of every month through September on Central Street in Rutherfordton. Grab your lawn chairs and come listen to the acoustic grass roots sounds of local artists at Fridays Unplugged on Central. Musicians and local bands will showcase their talents outdoors in downtown Rutherfordton.

Forest City Owls Baseball Season continues in July and August

Aug. 5th – 15th at 7:05 PM

Join in on the experience of watching Rutherford County’s premiere national championship collegiate baseball team this summer! The NCAA players come from all over the country and play during the summer while living with area host families. There are plenty of family-friendly activities, a concessions area and a beer garden for the adults.

2nd Annual Cycle North Carolina Mountain Ride and Festival

Aug. 1st – 2nd at Morse Park Meadows, Lake Lure

The Cycle NC Mountain Ride offers various mileage options ranging from 11 miles up to 80 miles throughout the majestic mountain roads of Lake Lure.

On Saturday, Aug. 2nd beginning at 4pm in Morse Park Meadows riders and their guests will be treated to an outdoor festival filled with entertainment featuring food vendors, a beer & wine garden, live DJ, fire pits and plenty of fun activities. Celebration of the Arts

Aug. 4th – 24th from 10:00 am- 5:00 pm at Rutherford County Visual Artists Guild.

There will be three separate shows focusing on different media. The art show is a judged competition with cash and ribbons awarded to the Best in Show, First, Second and Third Place entries.

Lake Lure Olympiad Sports Festival

Aug. 14th -16th at Rumbling Bald Resort

Lake Lure Olympiad’s “3 Races in 3 Days Challenge” will kick off on Friday, August 14, 2015! Begin with Opening Ceremonies and the 10K Dam Run on Friday night at 7pm at Rumbling Bald Resort. Saturday, August 15th, the Lake Lure Triathlon happens at the beach of Rumbling Bald Resort at 8:00am. The Junior Olympiad begins at 9:00am! Then on Sunday morning, August 16th at 7:00am, close out the weekend at top of magnificent Chimney Rock with the Race to the Rock, a 25-mile bike or 5K run that ends with a 6% grade incline three miles straight up to the top of Chimney Rock.

Lake Lure Dirty Dancing Festival

Aug. 14th -15th at Morse Park Meadows, Lake Lure

Start off the festivities on Friday night, Aug. 14th at 7pm with the Lakeside screening of Dirty Dancing. Bring a picnic dinner, some blankets and chairs and cuddle up to watch Dirty Dancing on the big screen alongside famous Lake Lure! There will be food and beverages for sale onsite.

Continue the fun on Saturday, Aug. 15th at 9am for the daytime family dance festival. An all-day affair with live bands and dance performances, a beer and wine garden, games for all ages, a dance lessons tent, food and craft vendors, and of course the infamous Lake Lift Competition!

Mystic Waters Ski & Skeet Pro-Am Tournament

The Mystic Waters Production Team, Lake Norman Ski Club and the best drivers in the world team up again to bring you the 2015 Mystic Waters Ski & Skeet Pro-Am Tournament. Grab your lawn chairs and sit lakeside to watch the top water-skiers in the world compete for the Pro-am Prize. A family health, wellness and makers fair will take place during the event at Mystic Waters in Lake Lure, N.C.

Wild Mushroom Walks at CRSP

You’ll be amazed at the variety of fascinating fungi growing along the Park’s trails. Whet your appetite on this guided hike, led by Karen Johnson as we identify and learn about a dozen or so of the most common mushrooms among more than 1,000 species that could be growing in Western NC.
