Rumbling Bald Resort sponsored a Veterans Day celebration on Wednesday Nov. 11th. Over 20 veterans attended and were honored for their service. The event recognized those past veterans who attended and honored all veterans serving and those who gave the ultimate sacrifice to keep our nation free. Steve Earnest, director of RBR security, emceed the event and kicked it off at 10 am. The Rev. Bill Miller, a Rumbling Bald resident, made some factual comments about the reverence of the day and offered an opening prayer. Keane Matthews, state director of Bugler’s Across America played the call to colors as the flag was raised. Each vet attending stated his branch of service and time served. Rev. Miller read a list of resident vets who have deceased and Mr. Matthews played taps following the reading. The attendees joined in the singing of our national anthem. Finally, Mr. Matthews played the chow call and the group was invited to a wonderful pancake breakfast with all the side dishes included at the nearby Lakeview Restaurant. About 70 people attended and enjoyed the scrumptious breakfast offered free to vets. Steve Earnest recognized Gary Wilson, Tommy Lee, RBR food and beverage manager, Bill Miller and Randy Snyder for their help in planning the event.
