March 15th isn’t just an important day in North Carolina because it’s our first Presidential Primary. There’s another reason local voters in particular should get out and vote and it has quite a bit to do with funding important needs right here in Lake Lure and Chimney Rock village.

March 15th is the day that voters across North Carolina will be asked to vote on the CONNECT NC – $2 billion Bond Initiative.

If approved, it will mean statewide investments in education, parks, safety, recreation, and water and sewer infrastructure.

The bond package has already been authorized by legislation in the last session. Now, if approved by North Carolina voters, the bonds will provide $2 billion dollars in funding, including $309.5 million for upgrades for water and sewer projects in Tier 1 and Tier 2 counties, and $3 million in funds for the Parks and Recreation Trust Fund to provide matching grants for local governments for to adapt or build parks that are accessible to children and veterans with disabilities. Rutherford County is a Tier 1 County.
The new bonds are expected to be paid utilizing existing taxes and keeping existing tax rates the same.
