Help Us Help Golf Tournament is back for its 13th year of raising hope and cheer for children across Rutherford County. Since 2003, employees of Rumbling Bald Resort have come together to volunteer for the annual golf tournament which funds the ultimate goal of providing Christmas presents to children less fortunate. The initiative began with one child and has grown to twenty in 2015. Hometown Holidays

Main Street, Forest City


Create new traditions and lasting memories this year experiencing the magic as over one million lights come to life at the Hometown Holiday’s celebration in downtown Forest City. Kicking off the month long festivities is the annual Christmas Lighting Ceremony on Thanksgiving night, November 24th. At 6:00 pm the town will welcome residents and visitors alike with live music from ‘In His Glory Quartet’, a raffle drawing and the lighting of the tree by the mayor. Santa’s House opens at 7:00 pm with complimentary cookies and hot coca. Families will also enjoy the outdoor ice skating rink open until 9:00 pm.


The Forest City Christmas Parade will be held on Sunday, November 27th beginning at McNair Field at 3:00 pm. Sponsored by the Forest City Merchants Association, the parade travels east on Main Street and ends at Forest City Methodist Church.


Each week in December, Friday-Sunday for three weeks, Forest city will host a multitude of Christmas Festivities on Main Street.

Small Town Christmas

Downtown historic Rutherfordton transforms into a winter wonderland on Saturday, December 3, 2016. Merchant shops and local sidewalk vendors are open all day. Meet Mr. & Mrs. Claus inside Main Street Park from 1:00-2:30 pm. The annual Christmas Parade will come through at 5:00 pm, after beginning in Spindale at 3:00 pm, filled with marching bands, decorated floats, horses, dance troops and our guest of honor, Santa Clausitness the lighting of one of the tallest cedar trees in western North Carolina located on the courthouse lawn. For the first time in several years, the town of Rutherfordton will host the Lighting of the Tree Ceremony at 6:30 pm. Live music of Ol’ Hwy 74 Jazz will be playing.


Chimney Rock Village Christmas

On Friday and Saturday, December 2nd and 3rd Chimney Rock Village will host their annual Chili Cook-off and Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony. From 5:00-9:00 pm locals and visitors will share in the holiday spirit through good eats including chili and a cake walk, bingo games, and the lighting of the tree. Mr. & Mrs. Claus will be there along with carolers singing to the joy of the season. Mercantile shops will be open and ready to fill your bags with gifts for the whole family.

  • Veterans Day Special- Free Admission for Vets:

Chimney Rock State Park honors American veterans, reservists, retired and active military men and women during the week of November 9-13, 2016 with free park admission and discounted offerings for additional adults and youth in same vehicle.


  • Naturalist Niche Series: Nature at night:

On Saturday, November 12th at 6:30 pm, take a nighttime excursion learning about how the creatures of Chimney Rock State Park live during the night. This is a trail walk led by an expert naturalist. Bring a headlamp or flashlight, dress appropriately for the weather, wear comfortable hiking shoes and bring water.


  • Santa on the Chimney

The holiday season in Lake Lure is never complete without the sights of Santa Claus repelling 200 feet from the most famous chimney of all, Chimney Rock at Chimney Rock State Park. Visit the park on the first two Saturday’s in December, the 3rd & 10th, to witness the annual daring descent as Mr. Claus practices to sweep chimneys bringing presents to good children all around the world. From 11:00 am – 2:00 pm take joy in meeting Santa and Mrs. Claus, listen to live holiday music, sip on hot cocoa with cookies and have fun with kids’ activities. Plus meet live Park animal animals and educators.

“Christmas With The King” features Travis Powell as Elvis, singing many of Elvis’ number one hits as well as many seasonal favorites, backed by the TBC Experience Band. This is a benefit concert raising funds for The Cleveland Rutherford Kidney Association, a mission to improve the lives of kidney patients in Cleveland and Rutherford Counties.


  • Ol’ 74 Jazz Christmas Concert

Ol’ 74 Jazz is an eighteen-member big band established in 2010, performing holiday hits filled with merry spirit at the Foundation Performing Arts Center. This is a benefit concert for The Community Pet Center raining funds to safeguard and promote the rescue and adoption of animals, to provide education to the community about responsible pet ownership and to reduce the pet overpopulation through spaying and neutering programs.
