Lake Lure Polar Plunge

The 9th annual Lake Lure Polar Plunge will be held on New Year’s Day, January 1, 2017 at noon. Do to unavoidable repairs to the Lake this year, the much anticipated and ever so popular plunge will be held at the pool of the 1927 Lake Lure Inn and Spa across from the beach. Organized by the Hickory Nut Gorge Chamber of Commerce, participants are encouraged to dress up in their most outrageous costumes, which will be judged by Mayor Bob Keith and other panel members who will award prizes to the winners. Stay after the plunge for food and drink around the fire pits. Proceeds from the Polar Plunge will benefit the chamber and Hickory Nut Gorge First Responders.

Party Rock Fundraiser and Thank You Celebration

Saturday, January 21st’-thank-you-celebration-fundraiser

Through a continuing sense of unity, several public and private organizations are coming together at Rumbling Bald Resort on Jan. 21st to honor local fire departments for their role in battling the recent Party Rock Fire. The Thank You celebration & fundraiser will begin at 5 pm and will recognize several businesses, volunteers and others who went above and beyond in responding to the challenges of the 25+ day wildfire. Space is limited, although all are welcome to attend this free event, which will include a cocktail reception, heavy hors d’oeuvres, a time for special recognitions, and some entertainment.
