If you’re lucky enough to be visiting the area this summer, you may find yourself falling in love – with the area and lifestyle, that is! It’s obvious that Lake Lure is a gorgeous mountain lake, but you’ll discover it’s much more. It is a popular vacation or getaway destination, a quaint village, a hiker and nature lover’s paradise, and a permanent address for approximately 1,500 residents. The Hickory Nut Gorge enhances Lake Lure’s offerings with local shopping, dining, hiking, biking and of course Chimney Rock State Park! With a true four-season climate and mild winters, there’s something to do all year round.
Most “locals” will likely say discovering Lake Lure was “by accident” – they learned about the natural assets of Lake Lure and the Hickory Nut Gorge, came for a visit, fell in love and decided “living on vacation” was for them! Although away from the hustle and bustle of a busy city, the pleasures of unlimited shopping, dining, and cultural entertainment can all be found in 90 minutes or less. And, of course, the Gorge has its own selection of great dining establishments, even a local brewery! Long-distance travelling is easy from the Asheville, Greenville/Spartanburg and Charlotte airports.
Throughout each year there is an abundance of activities to keep residents and visitors alike well entertained: rock climbing/bouldering competition, dragon boat race, spring and fall art and craft festival, annual Olympiad, bike race, Dirty Dancing Festival, and much more. The Tryon International Equestrian Center, just 20 minutes down Hwy. 9, has brought world-class horse shows to the area and during the summer hosts Saturday Night Lights, a night of competition and entertainment free to the public. Their ever-expanding venue includes dining, shopping, lodging and more amenities to come. The Lake Lure Newcomers Club and Rumbling Bald Resort Home Owners’ Association both have an array of regularly scheduled events and activities that bring people together where part-time residents fit as easily into the sociability of the community as full-time residents.
When you’re ready to live your dream, there are plenty of options in local and area real estate, ranging from lakefront to mountaintop estates, and everything in between. For more information on living in, on or close to Lake Lure, a local real estate professional will gladly help you find the right fit for your lifestyle.
