As Executive Director at Lake Lure Classical Academy-CFA I have just completed my first year at the helm. Summer is the time folks in the education business have time to slow down and reflect.

Having been an educator for nearly forty years, I think I have a broad perspective and I would like to bring to bear my summation of this past year and the road ahead.

One of the most positive aspects to this year has been the overwhelming support of the Lake Lure residents, business, town government and parents. Together great things are happening for our students, and a great deal of this positive trend can be attributed to our community desperately wanting our school to succeed.

My measure of a successful year is the satisfaction and success of our students. I look at the twenty-four Seniors who weathered many storms and are now moving on to their next chapter; be it university, mission work, family business or serving in our Armed Forces. They are well prepared.

Lake Lure Classical Academy has embarked on a journey with Isothermal Community College to offer dual enrollment whereby students can earn an Associate of Art or Science. This has truly redefined our High School. and certifications in many fields, from welding, auto-body repair to criminal justice. These options will give our students choices as they refine their life goals.

We are also working closely with Chimney Rock State Park to develop signature and highly relevant science, environmental, and history curriculum that will focus on the abundance of natural resource in the CRSP and Hickory Nut Gorge. We are very fortunate to have these beautiful and unique resources so close at hand.

Our elementary school and middle school continue to feature some of the best instruction from some of the most caring, knowledgeable teachers I have ever known.

I look at some of the highlights whereby our school and community rose to the occasion in adverse conditions. The Party Rock Fire which caused LLCA-CFA to close for seven days due to road closures and smoke is a great example. Our students, parents and staff rallied to help support our brave firefighters and first responders by partnering with Rumbling Bald Resort, the town of Lake Lure  and the Hickory Nut Gorge Chamber to help raise funds with the Chili Cook-Off event. Though the circumstances were dire, so many rallied to work together for the greater good and needs of our community. This is just an example of how our school community is part of the entire community.

This year we are holding our first ever summer camps, Camp SOAR. Without question this has been a great success as our students and guests have been positively engaged and stimulated.

I want to extend a sincere invitation to any of you who would like to learn more about Lake Lure Classical Academy-CFA.
