Thanks  to all  the mudslide-clearing crews – DOT folks and our amazing volunteer firemen – (and no rain), our Monday evening *Backyard Sports celebration was a terrific ending for our first year. We had a great turnout with 51 folks!

ALL THE KIDS, parents, siblings, coaches and volunteers with spouses enjoyed the cookout, complete with an ice cream sundae extravaganza provided by John & Megan Medina.

The kids enjoyed a big surprise… a Bounce Slide in addition to dodge ball and time on the playground to cool off and catch their breath. .
After dinner, Wes Shields, Rector of Bat Cave’s Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration, presented t-shirts to the kids and the volunteers. He also gave each of the kids a book of devotionals written especially for kids. He thanked Tom Keever, the Lake Lure Classical Academy executive director for his assistance, especially for arranging bus transportation to the church. Wes Shields also thanked all the volunteers for the part they played in this significant community program.

*Backyard Sports is a free afterschool sports program for elementary school students offered every Monday afternoon from 3:30-5:00 pm. during the school year. The kids learn basic skills, teamwork, good sportsmanship, and develop self-confidence while HAVING FUN. This program is provided by The Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration in Bat Cave as a part of their outreach ministry.
