Big changes are coming to the Hickory Nut Gorge Outreach (HNGO)! As a result of significant growth over the last several years, HNGO will be relocating to 2556 Memorial Highway, Lake Lure in early February. The new location will provide expanded space for the Food Pantry and other outreach programs, and operating hours will be expanded to better accommodate client schedules. Additionally, grant funding will enable HNGO to provide more sustainable food items, including fresh fruits and vegetables. These changes are expected to provide a more personal experience for HNGO clients.
The Hickory Nut Gorge community has been a big part of HNGO’s success over the years. With our progression into our new quarters, we invite the community’s involvement in HNGO’s expansion plans. HNGO is developing a “Donor Giving Program” that recognizes donors based on their giving levels. A plaque will be present in the HNGO lobby recognizing donors based on giving levels. In addition, a commemorative dedication area will be created on the property and community members will be able to buy a brick engraved with their names.
We are very excited about the transformation that HNGO is about to embark on. We hope the community will become a part of this expansion project that will benefit our current and future clients. We appreciate the continued support of our generous community.
HNGO is a non-profit organization serving families in the Hickory Nut Gorge and extending into neighboring communities. HNGO focuses on helping to eliminate food insecurity and provides emergency services to those in need. Eligible individuals and families are able to take advantage of HNGO services, including the Food Pantry, Food for Kids Program, and the Holiday and Angel Tree Programs.
HNGO is funded solely through the generosity of individuals, churches, community organizations, businesses and grants, fundraisers and local food drives. Food and other products are purchased at a minimal cost from the MANNA FoodBank (a Feeding America partner) as well as at local grocery stores. HNGO does not receive any federal funds and all programs and activities are fully supported by volunteers.
Donations can be sent to PO Box 634, Lake Lure, NC 28746. If you would like to learn more about HNGO or volunteer your time, please contact the HNGO office at 828-625-4683.
