Join the Symphony of Rutherford County on Mother’s Day weekend, May 11th, 2019 for its only outdoor concert of the year. As part of the Chimney Rock Village annual SpringGo Celebration to officially welcome the spring season, the Symphony will assemble in the Gathering Place Amphitheatre to play an encore of favorites from its spring concert.
The annual event includes a pre-concert dinner and beautiful music as the sun sets behind Chimney Rock Mountain.
“It’s truly our signature event in the Village
that everyone looks forward to every year,” said Mary Jaeger-Gale, president of
the Chimney Rock Village Community
Development Association, host for the event.
The day kicks off at 9 am with the world’s shortest parade through the heart of the Village. It includes fire trucks, village merchants, candy, Little Miss and Little Mr. SpringGo, and of course, a mascot riding in the back of a pick-up truck dressed as a Holstein dairy cow.
This year’s parade will also include some beautiful classic cars from the Blue Ridge Chapter of the Antique Classic Boat Society, which will be having a boat and car show in Lake Lure that same weekend.
One of the great build ups to SpringGo has always been the Annual CowPie Bingo Raffle which culminates
on Saturday, May 11th when the Raffle winner is announced. CowPie
Bingo involves live
cows “producing” pooh in a large grid marked off like a Bingo Card. The area
receiving the largest deposit reveals the big winner. Only 200 tickets are sold
at $25 each. Raffle tickets go on sale in mid-March and are available from Village
merchants right up to 10 am Saturday morning, May 11th. After that,
no more tickets are sold. The winner gets half the revenue, and the Chimney Rock Village Community
Development Association, (the CDA) gets the other half.
As the day winds down, and the cows retire for the evening, black and white tablecloths adorn the tables at the Gathering Place. The audience settles in and enjoys the sprawling views of Chimney Rock Mountain while the sound of music fills the air.
SpringGo and the Symphony concert is a unique idea and just one of the many endeavors behind the CDA’s work as the non-profit promotional arm for this small community. All of the association’s event fundraisers, as well as membership to the CDA, support the beautification and promotion of Chimney Rock Village and the development of new amenities.
Admission to this year’s event is $20 for adults and $10 for kids 6-11. Children under six are admitted free of charge. The admission price this year includes a catered dinner.
