Mountains Branch Library
If you are not coming to Mountains Branch Library, you are missing out! You are missing out on the “normal” library stuff such as books, magazines, and computers (which are all great, by the way), but you are also missing out on first rate programming which is almost always free and appropriate for everyone!
In June we held the Summer Reading Program Kickoff Event at POPS in Forest City and to say it was a success is an understatement! Kids of all ages poured into POPS to cool off in the splash pad, watch the magician, play games, and most importantly – register for Summer Reading. In all, over 350 children registered for the Summer Reading Program through Rutherford County Library System. We have weekly programs at each branch (County, Haynes, and Mountains) that are so much fun for the children.
Jonathan Putnam, author of A House Divided was our guest for July Books & Bites at Lake Lure Inn and Spa and he was fantastic! We had 66 in attendance to hear this fascinating man. Mr. Putnam definitely made me want to read all of his Lincoln and Speed Mysteries!
If you haven’t yet signed up and paid for the August Books & Bites with Mary Alice Monroe, please do so quickly as spots are filling up. She will talk about her just released book, “The Summer Guest”, Wednesday, August 21, 11 am. at the Lake Lure Inn. You can call 828-287-6392 to place your name on the list. We can’t thank the Friends of the Mountains Branch Library enough for their Books & Bites work!
Speaking of the Friends, they work so hard to support our library and don’t always get the recognition that they deserve. Please stop by and thank a Friends member for all they do. If you love your library and would like to join the Friends of the Mountains Branch Library, now is a good time. Ask at the Front Desk about how to become a member.
Speaking of “all they do,” we could not function without our volunteers. Please stop by and thank a volunteer for all they do as well. It is so nice to come in every day to their smiling faces!
Jessica and Luz were at Mountains Branch Library July 8, 2019 and taught us how to make delicious homemade tortillas. And delicious they were! Thank you, Luz, for being willing to share your wonderful knowledge with us.
Jessica was back at Mountains July 27 to celebrate Hispanic Heritage with food, song, sand dance. We had authentic tacos, tamales, desserts, and drink that were to die for! Many people came especially to see the beautiful dancers do their traditional moves.
Aditi Watson presented her first Silk Scarf Painting class on June 28 and the creations were absolutely breath-taking! Aditi will be here in August for another silk scarf painting class.
We have some great programming in August and hope to see everyone here!

Thanks to a very generous patron, we now have the complete book series of Poldark by Winston Graham. The Poldark movies are wildly popular and I believe these books will be as well. Let us know what you think!
Where do you go when you want to boogie down? Well, Mountains Branch Library, of course! We had over 30 children for the second week of Summer Reading. We danced to some great tunes such as “Rockin’ Around the Clock,” “Splish Splash,” and “Wipe-Out”. I think the grown-ups had as much fun as the kids! Join us every Tuesday for a new and excited Summer Reading Program.
Remember, Mountains Branch Library is YOUR library and we want to see YOU!
