Lake Lure Classical Academy welcomed students back to school on Wednesday, August 14. The 2019-2020 enrollment is an all- time high with 520 students present the first day – a 2.7% increase from last year’s high of 506 students! Students, parents and teachers alike were delighted to reconnect and resume the journey of learning together.

Little things that are taken for granted in some schools are cause for joy with our Raptors. Just being able to meet with all of the parents in the Raptor Center (Gymnatorium) at the same time during open house was an opportunity we did not have until this year. The Esprit de Corps and school pride is obvious. I want to invite the community to come out and support our teams, Boys Soccer, Volleyball and Cross Country. You can find the schedule on our new website, https://llcharter.org  Our athletes and coaches would love to see you come out and support.

I am pleased to share that Lake Lure Classical Academy received full accreditation from the AdvancED accreditation. This was a process that took almost two years, beginning with a self-study, surveys of all stakeholders, parents, teachers and students and a two day site visit from a team of five representatives of AdvancED. We were recognized for using best practices, having a safe, welcoming and student centered atmosphere. This a very accurate reflection of what we strive to do every single day. This accreditation was not possible without the dedicated faculty and staff, fantastic students and supportive families.

Lake Lure welcomes new staff this year. In high school Mr. Dan Alich will teach Math 2 & 3 as well as computer coding, Ms Eleanor Knobil teaching Math 1 and Chemistry. For middle school welcome Mrs. Amberley Skipton, assistant teacher. New elementary music teacher Mrs. Peggy Hill will work with K-6 students and has plans for some student productions in the Raptor Center. Stay tuned. Last we welcome Cpl Tim Martin as our new School Resource Officer. Cpl Martin is highly trained and loves working with students.

It is amazing how exciting a paved drive and parking lot can be for those who have endured potholes and bumps. The front of the school is now paved and boy does it make a difference!

On Tuesday August 20 world renowned storyteller, songwriter and singer Michael Reno Harrell delighted the students with stories and song. The students are still laughing about some of the funny stories. We will continue to plan events for our students and look forward in the future adding programs for community enjoyment.
