Have the Time of Your Life while reliving the moments of our all-time favorite movie!

Since its release in 1987, “Dirty Dancing” has accumulated fans, accolades and praise worldwide, with the “Time of My Life” final dance scene finding its way into new television commercials and viral YouTube videos decades later every year. In Lake Lure, the legacy of this treasured pop-culture film continues to capture the imagination and hearts of adoring fans from around the world annually with its two-day celebration featuring movie-inspired dance, music, arts and entertainment. On September 13-14, organizers of the Dirty Dancing Festival will commemorate its 10 year anniversary honoring special moments that pay homage to scenes from the film’s original backdrop, reminding us of how much we all cherish this coming of age love story.

Grab your friends and family and take a step back in time as we celebrate this year’s milestone event with special guest appearances Franke Previte, Lisa Sherman, and Stacy Widelitz from the film’s soundtrack, and elements that highlight the extraordinary characters we hold so dear to our hearts. Get nostalgic dancing to the live sounds of 1960’s soul-filled hits, experience the iconic movie lakeside as it is shown from a giant, inflatable screen, and take a stroll along the new selfie walking-tour providing attendees the chance to strike a pose with enlarged, quintessential scenes from the movie.

Throughout the weekend, the festival revels the chance to channel your inner “Baby & Johnny” transporting fans back to that unforgettable summer in the Catskills. Join us to relive the memories with 5 different ways to dance, watch esteemed performances by the Asheville Ballet, carry watermelons, sing songs, engage in the variety of competitions, and participate in the Kellerman’s Talent Show.

Each year the festival concludes with the hilariously renowned Lake Lift Competition where daring couples test their re-enactment skills of Baby and Johnny’s iconic water scene. For the first time, the competition will be conducted from the Beach at Lake Lure.

A multitude of vendors will be onsite both days providing attendees with the pleasures of shopping the Artisan Village and Official Festival Merchandise, indulging in the scrumptious food items, and sipping the craft delights from the Club House Garden.

Hosted by the Chamber of Hickory Nut Gorge since 2015, and herald as the signature event of the year, the Dirty Dancing Festival generates a tremendous impact for the mission and vision led by the chamber, as well for the towns and surrounding communities of Lake Lure and Chimney Rock. As one of the beneficiaries of the festival, funds raised during the two-days go towards supporting operations, economic growth and the natural integrity and unity of communities in the Hickory Nut Gorge. In addition, the festival became an official event fundraiser in 2013 for the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network raising awareness and proceeds towards finding a cure. This cause remains a standing tribute to the film’s late star, Patrick Swayze, who passed away from the disease in 2009.
