Mountains Branch Library Branch Manager

Thinking of 2019, I can’t help but be thankful for so many things. Mountains Branch Library is at the top of that list! We couldn’t do what we do at Mountains Library without our volunteers and without our Friends of the Mountains Branch Library. Every day we depend on one another for something – time behind the desk, funds for a program or project, insight as to where to take Mountains Branch Library in the coming years, or just an encouraging word. Thank you to everyone who makes my job a lot easier!

Library Board members receive check for its support of the Olympiad Sports Festival. They contributed over 70 dozen homemade cookies for the most race food for the athletes and multiple volunteer hours during the event. Shown (l to r) are Patti Stewart, Library Chair; Dru Buesing (peeking over the top); Kay Dittmer and JoAnne Ellingson, Olympiad Board; Dianne Ward; Nancy Nelson; Beth Gordon (also peeking over the top); and Maria Davis, Librarian.

I am still amazed every day how much this library gets used by our community. Did you know that in November of 2019, over 500 people used our Community Room for one purpose or another? Almost 100 people attended some type of library sponsored program. That doesn’t include the over 1,100 people who came in the door to browse, check out books, use the computers, or just relax out of the heat or cold.

The Friends of the Mountains Branch Library have been working hard on the 2020 Books & Bites lineup. Please take notice of the dates of each event as we have one or two that may be earlier in the year than you are used to. All Books & Bites events are held at Lake Lure Inn and Spa. The cost of $25 covers a 3-course lunch, dessert, beverage, and the author event. Books will be available to purchase at the library in the weeks prior to each event with 20% of the purchase price going to the Friends of the Mountains Branch Library.

Remember, the days may be long, but the years are short. Live for today. Live for tomorrow. Live for the present and the future. It goes by faster than we think and sometimes we can only stand by and wonder where the time went. Slow down. Come in the library and relax. See what we have to offer. I guarantee you won’t be disappointed!
