In addition to stating the obvious, I’m verbing the word “summer” to mean ‘get on’ with summer. At this point, the pandemic is no longer nor will it ever be remembered as a wrinkle in time. Let’s hope we successfully pass through all the necessary ‘phases’ before summer is over. It’s a life experience that defies description. Yet here is summer and thousands of you are getting out there to celebrate the season – with the correct distancing, of course. Dr. Max Hammonds tells us how to do all that safely, see page 8.

Congratulations to Lake Lure Classical Academy’s Class of 2020! A drive-by parade was held in their honor and kudos of courage were expressed in an outdoor ceremony, see page 7.

Our cover photo shows that Lake Lure’s Flowering Bridge has never looked more inviting. Blooming flowers are bending for your approval, see page 26. And ‘booming’ describes our residential real estate market, see page 16.

‘Still haven’t ‘got summer’? Try one of Deborah Eisenhut’s recipes fresh from the garden to satisfy those culinary cravings, see page 28.

This is also a good time to pay it forward, see page 22, and to notice what local businesses through our local Chamber of Commerce and the Hickory Nut Gorge Foundation are doing for the community, see pages 6 and 18.

Whether you’re reading The Breeze on your laptop, cell phone or the printed page – my personal choice, enjoy summer at the lake, practice safety, be kind and encourage each other, support our local businesses, and most of all, ‘summer on’!

To all our long time and first time Breeze readers, we say thank you.
