Home can be your favorite retreat at this season.  It can offer something wonderfully on its own.

“Winter is the time for comfort,
for good food and warmth,
for the touch of a friendly hand,
And for a talk beside the fire:
It is the Time for Home.”
   Edith Sitwel

Life in Lake Lure benefits from our bustling art group.  The Lake Lure Artists, as in many towns and cities of the world, are fortunate to have artistic talent in their midst.  The quality of the arts in any community raises the desirability of living and visiting there. All have the fortune to have painters representing styles from traditional to abstract, and we are also proud of those who work in pottery, jewelry, photography, wood, glass, and fibers.

Thank you to all who have supported the artists in this trying time these seven or so months.  They, along with the many galleries and museums need and appreciate the thousands of visitors who find solace and peace in reviewing and enjoying the historic halls holding the collections of renowned artists and providing us with cultural sustenance.  It has been said that “life is not measured by the number of breaths we take but by the places and moments that take our breath away”.

I would like to mention with personal gratitude two of our very special members of the Lake Lure Artists.  They are Amy Wald and Carlann Scherping.  They, along with the rest of our group, have done a marvelous job of keeping us going and together while informing us of the activities and work we are engaged in and also making plans for the future.  Amy does a fantastic job of designing and building wooden picture frames that have become historic treasures to all who now own one.  Carlann paints and teaches beautifully in many different mediums and gets better and better with each new project.  We hope we can soon plan an art show that can share the work we have been doing in the past months.

This is still a time of magic when we can spend a little time together remembering the past with a bit of nostalgia and planning the future with more confidence.  This is also the perfect time and place to be for long walks enjoying our beautiful countryside.  Stop by my garden on the end of Tanner Drive if you are looking for holly and ivy to start decorating your home, and I will share mine which is plentiful and ready to pick.

However you celebrate and whoever you share your coming festivities of Thanksgiving and Christmas with, I hope they will be full of comfort and joy.
